In a world rapidly transitioning towards a greener and more digital society, the development of digital technologies and related policies has taken centre stage. Acknowledging the pivotal role of standardisation in realising its objectives, the European Union (EU) is committed to boosting development and adoption of global digital standards for increased competitiveness.
A consortium of leading European institutions has kicked off a new Horizon Europe Coordination and Support Action (CSA), aimed at strengthening international cooperation and understanding between technical communities and policy makers on digital policies and ICT standards.
InDiCo-Global builds on the success of the European Union-funded InDiCo project, led by ETSI, expanding its reach to embrace additional countries. The initiative targets key regions including the African Union, China, India, Southeast Asia, the Eastern Partnership and the Western Balkans.
The project has four key objectives:
- Promoting the EU model for setting global interoperable ICT/digital standards
- Enhancing the promotion of the EU ICT/digital standards for key technologies
- Understanding third countries’ standardization ecosystems and if needed, capacity building in terms of digital standardization
- Promoting the EU vision and approach to data protection
Over its 36 months duration, InDiCo-Global will direct 40% of its €2.5m budget to capacity building initiatives through a series of open calls for micro-projects focused on the targeted regions.
“ETSI is excited to lead this continuation of the InDiCo project, maintaining the relationships established and expanding the approach to new regions. Our partners, CEN, CENELEC, Martel, Trust-IT and COMMpla bring valued skills and capacities which will help drive the success of this project.” said Ultan Mulligan, Chief Services Officer, ETSI.
InDiCo-Global marks a significant collaboration, bringing together all three official European Standardization Organizations (ESOs) – ETSI, CEN and CENELEC, each with its pool of thousands of standards experts in Europe and beyond. It also includes Martel Innovate, Trust-IT and COMMpla. This consortium leverages the collective strength of the individual partners to drive European influence and competitiveness on the global standardization stage.
