Brussels - 25 February 2025 - The Datacom Industry Association (DIA) proudly announces its official launch, marking a major milestone in the development of Europe’s data communications ecosystem.
The DIA aims to bridge the gap between innovation and industry applications, driving Europe’s leadership in digital communication systems and enabling technologies for the transmission and processing of digital information across local and global networks in a secure, resilient, and efficient manner.
This new association will act as the voice for Europe's data communications sector, bringing together key industry players and experts, with initial activities which started in 2024 involving many experts from across Europe. Its current founding members - Excid, University of Essex, Eurotube, Fortiss, Huawei, IT Aveiro, In Times, Interpeer, ISTI at CNR, Lancaster University, Mobile Multimedia Labs at AUEB, Old Dog Consulting, University of Surrey, Veesix Networks as well as its associate members Prof. Miguel Rio, Prof. Michael Welzl, Dr. Anish Rauniyar, Prof. Gorry Fairhurst - are committed to advancing secure, innovative, and sustainable solutions that empower industries to tackle complex challenges and accelerate digital transformation across Europe.
A governance model built for innovation to build smarter networks for smarter verticals
The DIA’s governance is structured to foster collaboration through specialised vertical industry focused working groups, including key sectors such as: railway, energy, manufacturing, healthcare, transportation, and aerospace.
Complementing these industry-specific groups are cross-cutting focus areas in systems and enabling technologies, experimentation, and sustainability. By promoting synergy across verticals and enabling technologies, the DIA will ensure a holistic approach to solving the challenges of tomorrow.
Objectives of the DIA:
- Promote collaboration: Building bridges between ICT innovators and vertical industries to foster transformative solutions.
- Drive advocacy: Representing the interests of the data communications value chain and advocating for increased investment in networking research.
- Deliver tangible impact: Accelerating the adoption of cutting-edge ICT solutions to address real-world challenges and support Europe’s digital leadership.
